Waynetta Ausmus

Waynetta hails from Pawhuska and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She moved to Texas after she graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University, earning her B.A. in Education and later, her M.Ed. She was an elementary teacher and principal for over 20 years. Throughout her life she has loved horses, even naming her Lucky Me Ranch, near the Red River, after her childhood horse.
Waynetta’s love of nature and the west is the foundation for her stories. She had a weekly radio show of cowboy music, cowboy poetry and stories in Sherman/Denison,Tx for 22 years, as well as in Ada, Oklahoma, and on Clear Channel Radio in Oklahoma City. Waynetta has also had a 24/7 internet broadcast on Live365 that featured Western/Cowboy music, cowboy poetry, tales
from the Old West with insights from her life on the Lucky Me Ranch, and interviews with guests of the west and everyday cowboys and western celebrities.
Waynetta is a member of, and has served on, the board of Tejas Storytelling Assoc. as well as The Will Rogers Medallion Awards, where she received The Golden Lariat Award for her contributions in storytelling about the American West in 2022.
